Starting out with PowerBI

The past month has been quite hectic for me but I'm finally back on track to my self-directed learning schedule which I had planned when the summer holidays first started. After spending quite some time learning about Computer Vision (which I also put my 'knowledge' to use in a hackathon) - I must admit there are still so many things to learn about this area of data science - I am moving on to learning some data visualisation skills *cues in PowerBI*.
I started out by watching Avi Singh's PowerBi tutorial, which is really concise and informative, where I followed his video step by step. I then moved on to use a sample dataset ("financials" if I recall correctly, you can access it by clicking 'sample data' on PowerBI itself) to create my own report. This was a really short and small thing I pulled together in an hour, but nevertheless, I wanted to document my learning here.
Here, I created a sales and profit report based on the country selected - using the map feature as well as the table function to tabulate the number of sales of each product in a specified country. The cards are for easy reference for the total profits and sales for each country.
I also made use of the slicer feature to create a dropdown box to select the product type and compare the number of units sold and the discounts provided for a specific product based on the month. This was because I wanted to see if there was any correlation between the discounts provided for a product and the number of units of products sold - which seemed like a common sense thing to me but apparently, there isn't a strong relationship between the two variables, as seen from the second picture above for the product VTT.
Somehow, I also unknowingly replicated the design for the second visual graphic without even referencing the first one haha! I'm excited to learn about the other features of PowerBI as well as how to make really visually appealing reports, until next time I suppose - I'll definitely come back to learn more after my camp dry run tomorrow, hoping all goes well fingers crossed :))
